Couture Confessions by a Couturière

Couture Confession No. 2: Always make sure your couturiere makes more than one toile for your couture order. Find out why!

Make a Half-Scale Toile, or Two!

Couture Confession #3:

If you have a number of ideas you’d like to trial for your bespoke couture design, ask your couturiere if they can make a few half-scale toiles!

This is a great way to test out some ideas in miniature scale. It saves time, money and fabric!

Half scale couture models were a popular way to showcase new designs in the early part of the 20th century. The method was made popular by Madeleine Vionnet and practiced by couturiere’s during the post-war era of the 1940’s when fabric was in limited supply.

The creation of miniature haute couture designs pays homage to Le Theatre de la Mode exhibited in the mid 1940’s to fashion buyers and consumers in Europe and America. Dior was renown for his miniature Le Theatre de la Mode collections.

Half-scale copies of your final design are also a lovely way to remember your couture experience by.

Let us help you create a keepsake of your couture experience and a wardrobe of your very own Le Theatre de la Mode!
