The Art of Joy
What is the art of joy?
For me, it is being free to express myself as a creator, a maker and as an artist in an authentic and unique way.
Since pursuing my creative interests over the past 10 years, I’ve been able to reconnect with my artistic side, improve my drawing skills and learn new skills such as photoshop, photography with a DSLR camera and WordPress which has enabled me to share my work with others. These experiences have truly brought me joy and helped me find my true self again after many years of neglect holding down a professional career. It’s comforting to know that the talents I had as a child have remained with me into adulthood.
Every now and then I like to pick up the camera and take photographs of flowers and objects I use in my couture work. Recently I photographed a bouquet of Gerberas that had served their time. They looked limp and lifeless. Yet their beauty as they began to waste away was still remarkable. I find flowers look the most interesting at the moment they need to be thrown out. This is when nature truly speaks to you about the cycle of life and the importance of memorialising special moments in time.
Below are some of my favourite images of flowers that I have photographed over recent years. I hope you find them a joy to look at.
